About Us

office and horsesCherokee Center for Change Counseling, Inc., located in Woodstock, Georgia, was founded in 1993 by Ita Gilbert Dore’, LPC.  The vision for the center was to become an integral part of our Cherokee County community by committing our time and efforts in that area rather than statewide, which is often a “spread too thin” approach.  Our staff is chosen for their experience and varying areas of expertise, but most of all, on their ability to genuinely relate to the people we serve.  We recognize that our clients are people, not merely patients with treatment plans and we are committed to providing real solutions for real people rather than just a clinical diagnosis and a clinical plan.  A fundamental belief runs through our staff members that each person, regardless of their past or present troubles, deserves to be treated with dignity and understanding.  We provide an atmosphere of honesty and direct feedback, while understanding that each person ultimately knows their own solutions.  Our ultimate goal is to empower our clients to create the life they want to have rather than to impose our will and our judgments.

office and stablesCherokee Center for Change Counseling, Inc. is known for being involved in our community and providing new programs and services on an evolving basis to stay in tune with ever changing community needs.  We are on several major insurance plans and will file insurance for the convenience of our clients.  While our staff members are licensed by the state of Georgia, we receive no public funding and are completely self-supporting, freeing our center from the red tape and bureaucracy that can impose rules that often distract other facilities from the ultimate goal of helping others.

We are located on a peaceful farm setting in the convenient Towne Lake area of Woodstock close to Interstate 575.  This setting allows privacy for our clients not afforded by office park settings as well as a tranquil place with the flexibility to take children and families outside for  counseling sessions, rather than being limited to “couch therapy” alone.  Our staff offers a variety of specialties and experience to meet almost any need. Being involved in our community for almost 20 years, we also able to serve as a referral source to outside services, for those who simply don’t know where to start.  Above all, we are here to help.
